A 42-year-old Manton man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after he was injured in an all-terrain vehicle crash Thursday evening. Cecil Smith suffered major injuries, including a cut forehead and chest injuries, when the ATV he was driving rolled over on Wilson Hill Road near Manton about 7 p.m., California Highway Patrol officer Jack Polen said. Smith, who was not wearing a seat belt or a helmet, was thrown from the cab portion of the vehicle, Polen said. A medical helicopter flew Smith to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. He was admitted to the hospital, then subsequently arrested and released to the hospital for treatment, Polen said. -- Source: http://www.redding.com/news/2010/mar/20/north-state-in-brief-march-20-2011/?print=1 |

“It’s frustrating having a hunt ruined by people riding ATVs where off-road vehicle use is prohibited. Many ATVs look the same so there’s no way to identify violators when reporting the incident to law enforcement. There should be a requirement that off-road vehicles used on public lands have license plates or large decals. Any ATV user who follows the law and land management directives on where they can and can not use these machines should have no objection to this type of identification.” - Holly Endersby, hunter from western Idaho |
