AUGUSTA, Maine --Legislators in Augusta are working to ease relations between land owners and ATV riders. They are looking to amend part of an existing law to allow law enforcement to stop an ATV rider without any obvious physical reason, if only to see if they have permission to be riding on private property. The public hearing Tuesday saw support for the amendment from private land owners, woodland owners and blueberry growers. More than 90 percent of land in Maine is privately owned and supporters of the amendment say recreation like ATV riding depends on a good relationship with those owners. -- Source: http://www.wcsh6.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=113564&catid=2 |

“Farmers as a group rarely tend to want more government regulation. But the growing problem of trespassing caused by illegal riders spurred our membership into action to pass common-sense visible identification and ORV enforcement measures. We are proud that we were able to work with rider groups to find a solution that all sides could agree to.” - Christopher Henney, Director of Legislative Relations, Ohio Farm Bureau Federation |
