COLUMBUS TWP. -- A Casco Township teenager was arrested early Sunday after police said he drove his all- terrain vehicle down the center of M-19 north of Richmond. A Macomb County deputy tried to stop the 18-year-old driver shortly before midnight, officials at the Michigan State Police Richmond post said. Troopers continued the pursuit into St. Clair County. The teen was caught near Ellsworth Road in Columbus Township after he slid the vehicle off the road while rounding a curve. The teen then ran into a wooded area about ¼ mile north of Division Road. He was arrested for fleeing and eluding, operating an off-road vehicle on a public highway and operating a vehicle in a dangerous manner. He was turned over to the Macomb County Sheriff Department. The chase lasted about 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.

DTE to remove limbs from lines

DTE Energy will be working in St. Clair and Sanilac counties this month and in April to trim trees and branches away from power lines. Crews will be working in Port Huron and Lynn, Flynn and Speaker townships. Larger branches will be cut to firewood length and left for customer use or disposal. Smaller limbs and debris will be removed by DTE. Customers are responsible for keeping tree branches away from lines from utility poles to their homes.

No injuries reported in Port Huron fire

No one was injured in an apartment fire Sunday in the 1400 block of Riverview Street in Port Huron. City firefighters responded to the fire at 4:38 p.m. It was extinguished in minutes, a fire official said. There was extensive fire damage in the second-floor room where the fire started, fire investigator Capt. Mark White said. The entire second floor sustained heavy smoke damage, he said. The fire began when a resident unplugged a phone charger, White said. A bad connection in the power outlet caused electricity to arc to bedsheets. A woman and three children who lived there are planning to stay with a relative, he said.

"Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association worked closely with the Nevada OHV community to develop our current law and we believe that when fully implemented it will be very helpful in dealing with the problems of theft of OHVs and it will go a long way in identifying those who participate in destructive acts on or off public lands."
