HOT ISSUE: NUISANCE ORDINANCE. Commission will consider adopting an ordinance to control nuisances, including riding off-road vehicles close to homes, junk cars and criminal gang hangouts. The ordinance comes after about three years of study.

Noteworthy:

  • Consider a $722,460 bid with Frank Lepori Construction Co. for a solar power project at the county complex.
  • Combining the Social Services Department's adult services division into the Department of Senior Services to create a single department starting with new fiscal year in July to provide better services.
  • Consider an agreement with Reno and Sparks to share resources for general park maintenance.
  • Accept the resignation and retirement of County Treasurer Bill Berrum and appoint a new treasurer.
  • Award a $519,000 bid to Atlas Construction Co. for a pedestrian path project for East Fifth Street in Sun Valley.
  • Special Joint Meeting: The county commission will meet with the trustees of the South Truckee Meadows General Improvement District to discuss its future after the anticipated merger of the county's utility division with the Truckee Meadows Water Authority. It will be 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in upstairs Caucus Room at county complex.

    County Citizen Advisory Boards

    North Valleys: The board on Monday will make recommendations on a request to extend the amount of time for the Sierra Nevada Teen Ranch project to be built and consider lending its support for keeping a fire ladder truck at the Sun Valley station. It meets at 7 p.m. in the community building at the North Valleys Regional Park, 8085 Silver Lake Drive.

    Spanish Springs: The group on Thursday will hear about Martin Murietta's plans and procedures for using explosives in February at its aggregate pit at the end of Sha Neva Road in north Spanish Springs. It's required to notify property owners and post warning signs. The group also will make recommendations on the need for safe pedestrian access to Lazy 5 Regional Park and get an update on the alternative road plans to connect Pyramid Highway with U.S. 395. It meets at 7 p.m. in the community building at Lazy 5 park, 7100 Pyramid Highway.

    Warm Springs: The group on Monday will hear from Assessor Josh Wilson on new taxable property values in the valley, continue work on updating the Warm Springs Area Plan and hear about forming a Fire Safe Council in the valley to address defensible space and evacuation. It meets at 6:30 p.m. in the fire station at 6015 Ironwood Road.

    REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION: The group will hold a workshop to consider updating the regional utility corridor. It meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the county commission chambers.

    REGIONAL PLANNING GOVERNING BOARD: The board on Thursday will consider amending the regional plan to include policies calling for local master plans to be based on identified and sustainable water resources and tailor its long-range population forecast to the number of people who can be supported by sustainable water supplies after conservation and water importation are considered. It meets at 2 p.m. Thursday in the county commission chambers.

    Reno advisory boards

    Ward One neighborhood: The board will review on Tuesday a proposed permit for Dottys Gaming and Spirits to operate a 24-hour bar with slot machines, at 475 Keystone Ave., and permit sought by Divine Lounge for a nightclub at 95 N. Sierra St.

    It also will review Reno Tahoe Construction's request to annex its 18-acre property to the city and a requested permit that would eliminate requirements for walls, landscaping and fencing next to residential properties. The site is northeast of the intersection of West Fourth Street and Summit Ridge Drive. The group meets at 6 p.m. in the Seventh Floor conference room at City Hall, 1 E. First St.

    Historical Resources: On Thursday the commission will hear a report on what planners from across the state propose for reviving East Fourth Street after touring the area in October. Iit also will discuss the upcoming Mount Rose School centennial celebration and an upcoming exhibit on the Powning Addition. It meets at 3 p.m. in the McKinley Park School culture center's conference room, 925 Riverside Drive.
