TRENTON -- Jury selection is scheduled to begin today in the second trial of a 23-year-old city man accused of running over and killing a woman with an all-terrain vehicle on a city street seven years ago. Recardo McKoy of Euclid Avenue is charged with aggravated manslaughter, aggravated manslaughter while eluding police, death by auto and eluding police in the 2002 crash that took the life of a 53-year-old Pennsylvania woman. McKoy's first trial ended in a hung jury in June 2008. Leatha Barr of Falls, Pa., a state employee, was run down as she tried to cross East State Street before the start of the First Union Classic bicycle race held in the city. McKoy, then 16, allegedly drove his ATV on barricaded city streets past a city officer who tried to flag him down. During the trial, prosecutors argued that McKoy drove the ATV around a barricade, ignored an officer who motioned him to stop and instead "gunned" the engine of the Yamaha Quad Blaster before hitting Barr. The defense argued that McKoy hit Barr after losing control of the ATV when the officer jumped in front of him. McKoy was also injured in the crash. While awaiting trial in the fatal crash, McKoy pleaded guilty to drug charges in federal court in 2005. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
