On Tuesday at 6 p.m., Millville City Commission will introduce two ordinances concerning the New Jersey Motorsports Park. The first will change the Motorsports Park's agreement imposing conditions related to the excessive noise that has been imposed on nearly every neighborhood in the city. In doing so, both the city and the racetrack are admitting that the noise is a problem and something must be done about it. That's a good thing. The second ordinance will allow NJMP to build a motocross/ATV track closer to the neighborhoods most affected by the problem they acknowledge exists. The proposed motocross/ATV track will operate 10 months out of the year and every day, so any current noise intermissions will end. Perhaps I am missing something. If the commissioners admit the noise is a problem, why would they increase it, move it closer to people and aggravate the problem? What possible motivation can the commissioners have to take such contradictory action? If you were sleeping the first time around, wake up and be heard this time. If you can't get to the meeting, call or write now. Paul R. Porreca -- Source: http://www.thedailyjournal.com/article/20100802/OPINION03/8020336 |

“During the past decade, I have personally had six out of seven elk hunts ruined by the careless intrusions of ATV operators. This epidemic has forced me to abandon one prime hunting area after another, only to encounter the same situation elsewhere. The shameful part of this picture is that the overwhelming majority of these ATV’ers are young and healthy, not decrepit or physically challenged. Maybe these riders would be more respectful of other people's outdoor experience if they knew we could ID them." - Bill Sustrich, Colorado Backcountry Hunters and Anglers |
