The New Mexico Game and Fish Department has a new hot line where residents can report violations of state off-highway vehicle laws.

The department launched the 24-hour automated hot line this week. Callers will be prompted for basic information, such as the date and time of violation, the location and the type of vehicle involved.

The information will be forwarded to the OHV program manager for investigation. All reports will be confidential.

The department says any information about off-highway vehicle violations is helpful as law enforcement officers ramp up efforts to enforce the state Off-Highway Vehicle Act.

The hot line is (800) 366-4868.

"Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association worked closely with the Nevada OHV community to develop our current law and we believe that when fully implemented it will be very helpful in dealing with the problems of theft of OHVs and it will go a long way in identifying those who participate in destructive acts on or off public lands."
