I would like to thank John F. Sheehan for his July 13 letter about ATV riders in the pristine Adirondacks.

There should never be trails built for some people who enjoy racing dangerous ATVs through forests.

Anyone who would like to enjoy nature's beauty in a place like the Adirondacks should be welcome to hike, bicycle and, in wintertime, ski.

The Adirondacks are one of New York's jewels and should be protected from any kind of destruction, if for nothing else than for our future generations.

This also goes for snowmobiles.

All that these motorized vehicles do is to show someone's macho power and upset the wildlife.

Let us be civilized and let every one of God's creations live a tranquil life. There are not many places left like that because of human greed.

"Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association worked closely with the Nevada OHV community to develop our current law and we believe that when fully implemented it will be very helpful in dealing with the problems of theft of OHVs and it will go a long way in identifying those who participate in destructive acts on or off public lands."
