A man was killed and a woman critically injured when their ATV collided with an SUV in the Frankford section of the city last night.

The driver of the SUV was being held on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.
Police have not yet released the names of any of those involved.

It is against the law to operate an ATV on city streets.

Police said the accident occurred about 7:30 p.m. when the ATV cut in front of the SUV at the intersection of Torresdale Avenue and Kinsey Street.

The male driver of the ATV was dead at the scene and his female passenger was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition, officials said. The man driving the SUV was not hurt.

“Farmers as a group rarely tend to want more government regulation. But the growing problem of trespassing caused by illegal riders spurred our membership into action to pass common-sense visible identification and ORV enforcement measures. We are proud that we were able to work with rider groups to find a solution that all sides could agree to.”
