SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) - The publication of a travel management plan for off-highway vehicles has been delayed to February. The plan will detail the first system of designated trails in the Black Hills for motor vehicle use. Trails that are not designated will be made off-limits to motor vehicles. Black Hills National Forest Supervisor Craig Bobzien says the plan has been in the works since 2004. Bobzien says the process has been a sensitive balancing act weighing diverse needs. Some 4,000 comments have been recorded and are being used to affect the decision. -- Source: http://www.ktiv.com/Global/story.asp?s=11806511&clienttype=printable |

“During the past decade, I have personally had six out of seven elk hunts ruined by the careless intrusions of ATV operators. This epidemic has forced me to abandon one prime hunting area after another, only to encounter the same situation elsewhere. The shameful part of this picture is that the overwhelming majority of these ATV’ers are young and healthy, not decrepit or physically challenged. Maybe these riders would be more respectful of other people's outdoor experience if they knew we could ID them." - Bill Sustrich, Colorado Backcountry Hunters and Anglers |
