What was that about the best laid schemes of mice and men? Oh, yeah, they gang aft agley, as one of my countrymen put it. And while I can't say how the mice fared, the opening day of the archery deer season ganged agley for this human.

A wind that was supposed to be northwest was flat calm when I climbed into a tree stand after a quarter-mile walk on a two track through the woods.
