Injury and fatal accidents on all-terrain vehicles in West Virginia have declined from a few years ago, but, for some residents, the vehicles themselves are still a nuiscance.

People, for instance, like the residents of Community Acres in Wood County.

Resident John Mark Miller Monday petitioned the county commission to have four-wheelers banned in his neighborhood.

Miller says that, especially during the summer, the noise from the ATV's is a problem for residents.

"Kids will ride back and forth in between their houses at 11,12, 2 A.M. And if you're in bed, trying to get a good night's sleep to go to work the next day, it will wake you up."

Miller says the riders also need to take safety measures, such as wearing helmets.

The county commission is expected to hold a public meeting on Miller's request.

"Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association worked closely with the Nevada OHV community to develop our current law and we believe that when fully implemented it will be very helpful in dealing with the problems of theft of OHVs and it will go a long way in identifying those who participate in destructive acts on or off public lands."
