D.K. Wright VIOLA, WV -- Recent problems with ATV riders in the Marshall County community of Viola have prompted Sheriff John Gruzinskas to ask for assistance. He says he wrote to the superintendent of the WV State Police, asking for help on weekends from the Moundsville detachment. He says he's also talking with the WV Department of Highways, asking for restrictions on where people are allowed to park and ride their ATV's. He says a law enforcement presence in the area plus some restrictive signs might discourage people from going there, getting drunk and riding ATV's all weekend. Local residents say the noise and property damage are miserable on the weekends, and most of the offenders come from out of town and even out of state. "Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association worked closely with the Nevada OHV community to develop our current law and we believe that when fully implemented it will be very helpful in dealing with the problems of theft of OHVs and it will go a long way in identifying those who participate in destructive acts on or off public lands." - Frank Adams of the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Association |
