FOND DU LAC, Wis. - A snowmobiler who turned himself in after the death of 57 mallard ducks faces five citations totaling $2,490 including restitution. Department of Natural Resources Conservation Warden Kyle Kosin hand-delivered the citations to the 33-year-old Fond du Lac man on Friday. The man reported his involvement after news reports that the ducks were killed Jan. 13 at the mouth of the Fond du Lac River. He was issued four snowmobile violation citations and one natural resource violation citation. No criminal charges will be filed and the incident is being deemed an accident after the DNR's investigation. The man will pay $26.25 for each of the 37 drakes and 20 hens killed, amounting to just under $1,500. Source: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-ap-wi-snowmobile-deaddu,0,898190.story |

“We’ve had success bringing illegal riders to justice by snapping photos of their ID stickers. The problem in California is that they’re too darn small to see from far away or at high speeds. While I’m normally not in favor of the government getting involved in things, requiring all ORVs to have a visible ID with a minimum size and standard location would make them an even better tool for property owners to identify trespassing riders. We should also look to Wyoming’s lead and make trespassing penalties clear so riders think twice before they head off designated trails and onto my land.” - Mesonika Piecuch, private property owner, Kern County, CA |
